Why just have one tune in an awkward key when you can have TWO tunes in awkward keys together?! Enjoy!

I always thought this tune was an American Indian name for someone, because I ignored the "THE" at the beginning of the title. But I think it's literally about clouds drifting.....see what you think! Return to the Brandywine by Russ Barenberg
That's a very nice version of this old Welsh tune. There's a setting of it in a fiddler's manuscript (Morris Edward from Anglesey) dated from 1778, so it could possibly pre-date the Waltz craze that took a hold on Europe in the early 19th century. I therefore wonder if these tunes, whilst being in 3/4 time, were played differently to how we think of 'waltzes' now. An accordionist in our regular music session plays it more like a French Bouree but that's maybe a little fast. I guess we'll never know how they were played at the time but at least they have survived for us to enjoy in the present day.
Very nice! In my mind the ending begs to be resolved, but the uniqueness of this tune is that it isn't.
The best video on string crossing I've found on youtube so far! 👍🙏
I appreciate that, thank you!
Thanks for this wonderful lessons, gonna try this out!
The dogs have a great life! LOL! Laying around and serenaded all day. I really liker the tune and what you are doing on the channel. One question, what is the strum machine and where can I purchase one? My guitar player lives about 200 miles from me so we don't get together as much as I like. Strum machine sounds like a good option when I practice by myself. Thanks!
The dogs are SO cooperative most of the time! Strum Machine is WONDERFUL. its not a machine, its an app. It costs $5 per month and worth every cent. You can use it with or without internet. You cam share the songs you create....so when you join you immediately have access to thousands of shared songs, or create your own. Go to strummachine.com. easy peasy!
@@RedDesertFiddle AWESOME! Thanks for the info on the strummer!
Love it! It sounds awesome! I am going to have to get that waltz book now for sure. It looks and sounds like a fun tune to play! Chords sound good as they are.. sometimes a guitar player knows better than us fiddlers.😊
love it!
Oh. My. Goodness. Thank you for this amazing background history. I will change the title to reflect the composer. Given he background, "the Trenches of Manchuria" seems like an appropriate title.
Lol Deb, thank you! Yes...Monte kept speeding up and I was tripping over myself! To be fair, he only had 10 minutes to prepare the whole session, so...I love him anyway!
Luv it! I saw that frown but it sounded even better to me !😉
This tune is not traditional, it was composed by Ilya Shatrov to commemorate the battle of Mukden, which took place on the hills of Manchuria in 1905. Shatrov was the conductor of the marching band for the 214th Mokshan Infantry Regiment. Shatrov's band played marches throughout the duration of the battle. Of the 61 band members, only 7 survived the battle. Shatrov wrote the waltz in 1906 in memory of his fallen comrades. The original key was Eb minor (for brass band), but now it's usually played in D minor. The full title is "The Mokshan Regiment on the Hills of Manchuria" but it usually gets abbreviated. Shatrov continued to serve as a military band conductor, serving in the Russian Civil War and in World War II. He passed away in 1952.
It's called: Valse à Jessy.
1:56 variation 2:18 B part
Lovely. That's helpful thank you.
Pretty tune.Tell me a little about your sweet sounding fiddle.Thanks,Alan.
Dentist! Gah!
LOL.....yep. Two sides of the coin: I broke a tooth (bad)....they squeezed me in before the holiday (good!).....gotta pay for it.....(bad)....
❤😂🎉😮
Thank you .
It's so nice to hear music about my home area. From the maritime east coast and fiddle music plays a large part for the people.
I haven't found a recording of him doing this. Is there one around?
Thank you so much for posting this, got to play along with your video - take care
You're violin has a lovely tone. Have you had it a long tome? Do you know much about it? Thank you for this. I am learning it, It's very pretty.
Love the video, I purchased your version from the web site, but it has a lot of double stops and it is confusing for me. could you do a video playing your version of the score? Thank you!
What chords is he playing on the guitar? Id like to try to play along... is it D G n C ???
Such a pleasant person to listen to and, who shares so unselfishly.
Your playing is lovely! I've just begun relearning violin since highschool (3 years ago now), and frankly the waltz book has been pretty humbling. I suppose I forgot what intonation was as a concept, as well as how to process new sheet music.. your video really cleared up this song for me and has made my practice sessions at least a little fun between scales 😊
Sweet tune! 🎶😊🎵🎶

Im not sure i can do that….
I’ve fallen for Amelia’s waltz ever since I heard this street performer years ago play it with his broken bow hairs flying in the wind. Thanks for the lovely rendition. A

WOW! Awesome :)

Who knew: that the melody for "Yankee Doodle" is believed to have originated from this song? Very well done!
Well I certainly did not know that!
Thanks a lot ❤❤
You're welcome 😊
Just thank you. Wonderful!!❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Best Morrisons’s jig on you tube.
I should give the credit to Pete Cooper's Book "The Irish Fiddle Player". Thank you!
Excellent teaching video, thanks! Just wondering about the left hand fingers flying straight up. Is this the best technique for students to be learning?
Dang it. Yes, you are right. In my paid lessons online, I admonish students that I am lifting my fingers up to give them a clear view. And it also "cues" them in for upcoming moves.
It is in the repertoire to be played by the Outstanding Open Band at the South Coast Folk Society's FolkOut! contradance at the Langlois Cheese Factory in Langlois, OR. on Aug 3, 2024. Hope it works out for all the players and dancers!
Is that an annual event?? I will go to it next year!
Beautifully played. What make of strings do you use?
I hate to say it...but I put whatever strings I have available on this old fiddle....it gets the hand-me-downs from my other violin. It is probably D'Addario Amo strings, based on the year. (I was using Amo at the time)
